The Story of Simple Chalk

Almost all of us have drawn with chalk. Those of us that are a bit older remember the black boards in our classrooms and the white chalk used to write on those boards. Younger generations have drawn masterpieces around our homes using colorful sidewalk chalk. What can this simple substance tell us about Noah’s Flood as described in the Bible?

Chalk deposits of the same age are found all over the world. The two pictures below show the same chalk formations from the beautiful English coast to the middle of America in Kansas.

So, what is chalk? It is formed from the skeletons of marine protozoa and algae. These layers were formed when billions and billions of shelled marine creatures died all at the same time. The calcium carbonate shells dissolve quickly in sea water so they could not have stayed underwater but a brief time. This sounds exactly like the year long catastrophic flood of Noah’s day.

The next time you are drawing with chalk and that wonderful dust is going everywhere, remember that even simple things like chalk offer scientific support of the Bible and Noah’s Flood.
